Schmelzer set to stay at Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund are expected to keep Marcel Schmelzer for at least another season.
Marcel Schmelzer is expected to stay at Borussia Dortmund despite not playing any significant role in the 2018/19 season, according to Bild.

The left-back, who has spent his entire career at Dortmund so far, played just 11 games in the 2018/19 season, but he's reportedly not interested in finding a new club and wants to stay and fight for his place instead.

At the same time, the BVB bosses are willing to hold on to Schmelzer who's considered a highly popular motivator who never complains and always works hard.

"It certainly wasn't Marcel's last games for Borussia. He's a guy who completely identifies with Dortmund," Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc told Bild.

Schmelzer, whose contract runs until 2021, earns about €3.5 million a year, according to Bild.
