Yann Sommer: 'It certainly wasn't the best game of football'

It wasn't pretty, but Gladbach managed to take all three points against Wolfsberger AC on Thursday.

Yann Sommer admitted that Borussia Mönchengladbach had to work hard for their 1-0 win over Wolfsberger AC in the Europa League on Thursday.

Speaking after the game at Lavanttal-Arena that saw Lars Stindl score the winner after an hour, the goalkeeper said in an interview on the club's website:

"It was a hard-fought win. It certainly wasn't the best game of football. Wolfsberg made things very difficult for us; they pressed us hard for the full 90 minutes, which made it tough to play out from the back.

"We had to resort to playing a lot of long balls, which is what they were hoping for, and the conditions weren't easy either. The three points are vital for us though. That puts us in a good position going into the final group game. We want to reach the next round in the Europa League and we'll need a good performance against Basaksehir to make that happen," Sommer added.

Gladbach sit top of Group J after the win and will advance to the knockout stages if they manage to get at least a draw in the final game against Basaksehir.
