Florian Kohfeldt: 'We missed a huge opportunity'

Werder Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt was left disappointed after his side missed a 'huge opportunity' to strengthen their bid for survival, losing 3-1 to Mainz on Saturday.
Werder Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt was bitterly disappointed after seeing his side miss a 'huge opportunity' to win points in their bid to steer clear of relegation.

With just one game left to play this season, the Green-Whites sit 17th, two points behind Fortuna Düsseldorf in the relegation play-off spot.

This means that when Werder Bremen take on FC Köln on Saturday, their fate is in the hands of Fortuna Düsseldorf, who can ensure safety with a win over Union Berlin.

"We missed a huge opportunity because we didn't win, although Fortuna Düsseldorf didn't get three points either," Florian Kohfeldt told Sky after the game and added:

"I'm very disappointed, I feel empty and need to collect myself a little. We have to focus everything on our game against Köln.

"Even if we only have a small chance of staying up, it's still a chance. We owe it to everyone - to ourselves and, above all, to every employee and every fan of this club - to do everything we can to win the game next week," Kohfeldt said.
