Bayern youngster Lukas Mai to join Darmstadt on loan

Bayern München youngster Lars Lukas Mai will join 2. Bundesliga side Darmstadt on loan for the 2020/21 season.

The centre-back, who played 26 games for FC Bayern's second side in the third division last season, will head out on loan after putting pen to paper on a new deal with the German champions until 2023.

Mai, 20, hasn't played for the first team since the 2017/18 season, which saw him feature two times.

"I'm very happy that SV Darmstadt 98 are giving me the chance to prove myself in the 2. Bundesliga and to develop here, both football-wise and personally," Mai told Darmstadt's official website.

"SV 98 are a great, family-oriented club. Because the talks with the responsible here were really great, I didn't have to hesitate for long when 'Die Lilien' made me an offer. I'm looking forward to the season with Darmstadt, and I'm eager to get started with my new team," he added.
