Krzystof Piatek will miss Hertha BSC's first competitive game of the season due to quarantine requirements.

Hertha BSC will have to manage without Krzystof Piatek when they take on Eintracht Braunschweig in the DFB-Pokal on Friday.

The 25-year-old will have to head into self-isolation after an UEFA Nations League game with the Polish national team in Bosnia, which is seen as a higher risk area of COVID-19 by Germany.

Piatek's 14-day quarantine will be reduced to five days if he tests negative for coronavirus, but the striker will not be able to face Braunschweig either way.

"Krzystof was caught between two stools. He knows that it is a catastrophe for him that he has to be in quarantine for five days at the start of the season. Of course, he doesn't like that at all," said Hertha BSC coach Bruno Labbadia, according to Reuters.

"We are his employer, but on the other hand, he is playing for his country. This is a situation you shouldn't put players in."

Piatek has scored five goals in 16 appearances after joining Hertha from AC Milan in January.
