Hannover boss: 'The fast-paced football train rushes past Germany'
Hannover 96 president Martin Kind says the Bundesliga can't keep up with the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A.
According to Kind, Cristiano Ronaldo's €100 move from Real Madrid to Juventus is an example of a transfer that a Bundesliga club would never be able to take part in.
"The football business will continue to grow. Europe's leagues have become show stages a long time ago. Ronaldo goes to Turin for €100 million at the age of 33. Shortly after, the Italians have made half of the sum again due to jersey sales. We wrinckle our noses while the Italian fans are happy. Juve were smart. Ronaldo doesn't come here. The fast-paced football train rushes past Germany," Kind told Bild and added:
"England, Spain and Italy have passed us by a long time ago. The big trophies will be lifted up the sky somewhere else. The last trump card of the Bundesliga is Bayern. I'm afraid it will get even worse.
Kind is certainly not the only person who has expressed a worry about the future of the Bundesliga.
Recently, former German international Stefan Effenberg claimed that the German league 'is not attractive for top players' while Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hübner said he fears that 'all the good players and stars from the Bundesliga will be taken away'.
