Eintracht Frankfurt's Argentine captain's contract runs out in the summer of 2021. There have been no attempts to renew with the former FC Basel and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim center-back, who approaches retirement age and is said to wish to return to his family in Latin America.

Last April, Abraham was linked with a return to a lower-league Argentine club. The defender has since stated that he has no interest in playing professional football after leaving die Adler and told SkyGermany over the Summer that he only wanted to play "another six months".

In a recent interview with German broadcaster Sport1, trainer Adi Hütter essentially confirmed that he doesn't expect to retain the services of his skipper in the second half of the season.

"In principle, without corona, matters would have ended in the summer," Hütter noted, "It will hence likely be curtains for him in Frankfurt come winter."

Chances that Abraham will hang around to complete the campaign appear slim. Hütter reported that the veteran "is currently in a good mood and having lots of fun with us", but noted that "he really wishes to return to his beloved son [in Argentina]."
