Bundesliga team of the week – Matchday 1
Players from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund dominate our first team of the week this season.
Matchday 1 – team of the week (4-1-2-1-2):
Goalkeeper: Roman Bürki, Borussia Dortmund
RB Leipzig could easily have scored more than one goal against Dortmund, but were limited to hitting the back of the net once thanks to BVB keeper Roman Bürki who made a total of six saves in the 4-1 win.
Right-back: Louis Beyer, Borussia Mönchengladbach
The 18-year-old made his Bundesliga debut at right-back in Gladbach's match against Leverkusen, but showed no signs of nerves. Looked very solid, calm and reliable.
Centre-back: Matthias Ginter, Borussia Mönchengladbach
Rock solid as so often before. Had a bit shaky start to the game against Leverkusen, but looked stronger by the minute. Won most of his duels and hit his teammates with 95 percent of his passes.
Centre-back: Martin Hinteregger, FC Augsburg
Had a strong game in Augsburg's central defense and also scored the equaliser in the 2-1 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Left-back: Marcel Schmelzer, Borussia Dortmund
The experienced full-back is much-criticised, but had a good game against RB Leipzig and set up Mahmoud Dahoud's equaliser with a nice cross.
Defensive midfielder: Axel Witsel, Borussia Dortmund
Already looks like an important player for Borussia Dortmund. In the game against RB Leipzig, he was a very calm presence in the centre of the park and did well to tie the defense and offense together. Also scored a goal, of course.
Central midfielder: Jonas Hofmann, Borussia Mönchengladbach
Did very well in the position as a number eight in the 2-0 win over Leverkusen. Hofmann showed that he is dynamic and very good with the ball at his feet. Also stepped up to convert Gladbach's second penalty after Thorgan Hazard missed the first opportunity from the penalty spot.
Central midfielder: Florian Neuhaus, Borussia Mönchengladbach
The central midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf, impressed in his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Never stopped running and showed he is a solid passer of the ball. Contributed well to both the defense and offense.
Offensive midfielder: Thomas Müller, Bayern München
A strong start to the season by the 'Raumdeuter'. In the match against Hoffenheim, he made it 1-0 after a corner and later set up Arjen Robben's 3-1 goal.
Striker: Sebastien Haller, Eintracht Frankfurt
Without a question the man of the match in Eintracht Frankfurt's 2-0 win over Freiburg. Very lively, technically good and strong with his back to the goal. Scored a goal and also made an assist.
Striker: Raffael, Borussia Mönchengladbach
The Brazilian didn't score against Leverkusen, but still deserves to be in the team. He was very agile and hard to control for the Leverkusen defense. Used his quick feet to excellently set up the 2-0 goal.
