Report: FC Bayern München leap ahead in race to acquire Dayot Upamecano
British sporting website The Athletic has reported that Manchester United's interest in Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has cooled. This leaves FC Bayern München in the pole position to capture the much-sought-after Frenchman.

The publication confirms that the German giants currently work the angle of the €43 million release clause contained within Upamecano's most recently signed contract extension. This would still render him a steal of a deal as, according to the latest transfermarkt.de valuations, Upemacano's current worth exceeds €60 million.
With the departures of central defenders David Alaba and Jerome Boateng all but certain after the season concludes, it's never too early for Bayern to demonstrate a commitment to bringing in replacement players for their defensive ranks.
Even if, as has been stated, the pivot-running defender will be staying put for the duration of the 2020/21 campaign, a future move could still be sealed during the January transfer window.
