'Götze needs a club where he fits in a hundred percent'

Mario Götze needs to find a new club to get his career back on track, Lothar Matthäus and Fredi Bobic say.
Since Lucien Favre has taken over as Borussia Dortmund coach, Mario Götze is yet to appear in a Bundesliga match and has spent three games on the bench in a row.

Götze's current situation was discussed during today's 'Wontorra - der o2 Fußball-Talk' broadcast on Sky, and the expert panel agreed that the 26-year-old needs to find a new club to get back on the right track.

"The positions that are tailored for him - the classic number 10 or the 'nine-and-a-half' - are not part of Favre's system," former German international Lothar Matthäus said during the TV show and added:

"Götze hasn't been a regular anywhere during the past four years, so now he has to think about how his career will continue."

Eintracht Frankfurt board member Fredi Bobic said Götze may need to accept a move to a smaller club.

"He needs a club where he fits in a hundred percent. The question is what the right club is, and which coach really wants him, so he will get to play. It's a pity that a footballer with so much quality rots on the bench," Bobic said and went on:

"He must be prepared to take a step back to then come back and take two steps forward. Maybe he can rediscover the joy of playing at a smaller club. The key is that you have to play."

Götze made 32 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions last season with two goals and seven assists to his name.
