Stefan Bell extends Mainz contract

Experienced Mainz centre-back Stefan Bell has extended his expiring contract until 2023, the Bundesliga outfit have announced.

"With his experience and leadership qualities, Stefan is an absolute asset to our team on and off the pitch. With his immense vision and good build-up play, he played a big part in stabilizing our defense in the second half of the season," said Mainz coach Bo Svensson.

Bell, 29, commented:

"I grew up playing football at Mainz 05, the club is not just an employer for me, but a matter of the heart - and with Bo Svensson, Christian Heidel and Martin Schmidt, there are people at the helm who feel the same way. That's why I'm happy to stay here and will continue to give my all for Mainz 05, the team and the fans."

The defender has made a total of 212 appearances for Mainz with 11 goals and 11 assists to his name.
