Union Berlin are in advanced talks with Steffen Baumgart about the possibility of him taking over from the recently sacked head coach Bo Svensson, according to Sky Germany.
Kicker also reports on Union's interest in Baumgart, stating that the German capital club want to appoint an external successor to Svensson.
Bild initially considered it highly unlikely that Baumgart would take over, but appear to have had a change of heart.
In an article on Sunday, the German tabloid claimed that the 52-year-old is being closely considered as Svensson's replacement.
Baumgart, who represented Union Berlin during his playing career, was most recently in charge of Hamburger SV, who sacked him in November.
