Leverkusen emerge as reported suitors for Josh Sargent

Bayer Leverkusen are now said to have joined the race for Werder Bremen striker Josh Sargent.
Reports have emerged that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in acquiring Werder Bremen forward Josh Sargent.

Bayer Leverkusen head of scouting Tim Steidten brought the U.S. international to Germany in 2018, at which point the 42-year-old was in charge of Werder's scouting department.

Asked if he's now interested in signing Sargent for Leverkusen, Steidten told Deichstube:

"Josh is a very good player, who I know very well. After all, I brought him to Bremen with me back then.

"Of course Josh is an interesting player, but I can't and don't want to say anything else about this."

In addition to clubs from England, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt have also been linked with the 21-year-old forward, who is widely expected to leave Werder following their relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.

Sport Bild reported earlier this week that Frankfurt aren't willing to meet Werder's €10 million asking price for Sargent. Per the German publication, 'Die Adler' were only prepared to pay half of that.
