"We made stupid mistakes on two occasions," Akanji told Sky after the game and went on to talk about Vincenzo Grifo's opener for Freiburg, which was scored from a free-kick.
"It was a superb free-kick, but we could have stopped it going in," said Akanji.
With regard to Freiburg's 2-0 goal, the Dortmund defender said:
"The second goal we conceded came from losing the ball and getting hit on the counter. We can't let that happen. We can't invite our opponents to take shots, especially when we're controlling the game.
"Sometimes we might lose to a team that are better than us. But we can't be losing games like today. At half-time we noticed that the opposition were tiring. But if you open the door for them to score, it's hard to come back. We're analysing the mistakes we've made. But we can't let that happen if our objective is to compete for the Champions League places."
