Sandro Wagner held his first press conference as Augsburg’s head coach on Monday, outlining the ideas he plans to bring to the Bundesliga club.

“I will come to work every day with a smile on my face,” said Wagner, who left his role as Germany’s assistant coach to take charge at the WWK Arena.

“I’m a learner, very humble, and see FCA as an incredible opportunity.”

On his style of play, Wagner explained:

“Active football is in my DNA. But that doesn’t mean just blindly charging forward. It should become unpleasant for opponents to come to Augsburg,” he said, adding that it’s about “not letting the opponent dictate the game plan.”

Explaining the appointment of Wagner, Augsburg CEO Michael Ströll said:

“Sandro is highly motivated, very ambitious, and works meticulously. A people person. He has a clear plan and a clear playing philosophy to play active football all attributes that align perfectly with our goals.”

Wagner has replaced Jess Thorup as Augsburg coach.
