Thomas Muller has taken a lighthearted swipe at the German media after the UEFA Champions League draw for the Round of 16 was finalised this afternoon.

With the Bavarian club pulled out of the hat to face fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, a mouthwatering all-German tie awaits in March.

Chatting to the Bayern Munich in-house cameras after today’s training session, the 35-year-old offered his own sarcastic take on the German media’s interpretation of the draw.

“Leverkusen are clearly the favourites to the German pundits. We are rank outsiders.

“We obviously want to prove ourselves to the pundits, right? Then we will see,” Muller added.

Muller, known for his quick wit and turn of phrase off the field, stared into the camera before smirking and walking off screen.

The reaction was clearly a shot aimed at several pundits who felt Bayern Munich were outclassed by Leverkusen in last weekend’s 0-0 draw on Matchday 22.

Some pundits also believe Die Werkself have become somewhat of a kryptonite towards the Bavarians who last defeated Leverkusen back in September 2022.
