Vargas reveals reason for rejecting Fiorentina, says he is ready for next step

Ruben Vargas has explained why he turned down a move to Fiorentina in January, and says he is ready to leave Augsburg if the right opportunity arises this summer.

Ruben Vargas was as good as gone last winter. Augsburg and Fiorentina had agreed on a fee of €7 million, but the 25-year-old Swiss international decided to pull out of the deal, Kicker reports.

"I simply have a good feeling in Augsburg, I have a familiar environment here. Especially with the European Championship on the horizon, I didn't want to give that up," he said in an interview with Kicker.

"It is difficult to move in the winter without preparation. Things have to click immediately. If you have to think about it so much, then it's not the right thing to do.

With Vargas entering the final year of his contract, the 25-year-old is by no means ruling out a summer move.

“It's no secret that I feel ready for the next step, if it's the right one for me and FC Augsburg. I can imagine everything, so I'm not putting myself under pressure yet.”

Vargas has been impressive in attacking midfield of late, scoring two goals and adding three assists in his last seven games.
