It caused a stir when Anthony Caci was recently quoted as describing Mainz as a "stepping-stone club" in an interview with Transfermarkt.

However, the 27-year-old has now made it clear that he doesn't think the interview reflects what he actually said.

"I would like to say something about the article, which was very, very badly translated and misinterpreted. I'm very happy in Mainz and I'm very happy to be having a very successful season with my team-mates at the club," he said in the mixed zone after Mainz's 2-1 win over RB Leipzig at the weekend.

"I only said that I wanted to fulfil my dream of playing in Europe. If we achieve that with Mainz, I can well imagine playing in Europe with them next season.

"It was certainly a mistake to let the interview go through without the club checking it. That won't happen again," he insisted.

Caci, 27, has made 25 appearances for Mainz this season, scoring once and providing five assists.
