As the Bundesliga heads into the winter break, Bulinews.com editor-in-chief Rune Gjerulff has picked his team of the season so far.

The team, which lines up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, can be found below.

Goalkeeper

Gregor Kobel, Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have conceded the second-fewest goals in the Bundesliga this season (12), only behind Bayern Munich (11), with Kobel keeping eight clean sheets – more than any other goalkeeper in the league. The Swiss shot-stopper also boasts the highest save percentage (76.6%) among Bundesliga goalkeepers, consistently impressing with his shot-stopping ability.

Defenders

Konrad Laimer, FC Bayern

One of the more underrated figures in Vincent Kompany’s Bayern side, Konrad Laimer has quietly become an undisputed starter at the right-back position. With two goals and three assists in the league this season, the Austrian international is a natural fit for Kompany’s high-pressing philosophy, combining aggression, intensity and relentless energy. According to Opta, Laimer is creating 2.0 chances from open play per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this season – the highest figure among full-backs across Europe’s top five leagues to have played at least half of the available league minutes.

Nico Schlotterbeck, Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund’s defensive leader, Schlotterbeck contributes not only with solid defending and duel wins but also plays a crucial role in the team’s build-up play. His pass completion rate (88.1%) may not rank among the league’s very highest, but part of the explanation is that he regularly attempts longer, riskier passes. Averaging more than seven successful long passes per game clearly demonstrates that

Jonathan Tah, FC Bayern

Tah has silenced any doubts since joining Bayern from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, forming a rock-solid partnership with Dayot Upamecano and playing a key role in the Bavarians conceding just 11 goals in 15 Bundesliga games this season. Beyond his dominance in duels, Tah also boasts the highest pass completion rate in the league at 96.1%.

Alex Grimaldo, Bayer Leverkusen

Unlike many of Bayer Leverkusen’s other key players in recent seasons, Grimaldo opted to stay at the club over the summer, making him even more central to the team. The 30-year-old has embraced this added responsibility, demonstrating leadership on and off the pitch, and has made a significant impact in attack with four goals and four assists in just 11 league games.

Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich, FC Bayern

With the second-most attempted passes in the Bundesliga this season (behind Leverkusen’s Aleix García) and a completion rate nearing 93 percent, Joshua Kimmich remains the mentality engine and chief orchestrator of Bayern’s well-oiled machine. Also influential in the final third, he has racked up five assists and a goal, underlining his all-round importance in Vincent Kompany’s system.

Assan Ouedraogo, RB Leipzig

After missing almost his entire first season at RB Leipzig through injury, the 19-year-old midfielder has bounced back in style and established himself as a key figure under Ole Werner. Tall, dynamic, and intelligent in possession with a sharp passing range and reliable finishing, Ouedraogo was rewarded with his first senior Germany call-up in November. A subsequent injury after returning to Leipzig has sidelined him again – and he has been sorely missed ever since.

Yan Diomandé, RB Leipzig

Signed for €20 million from Leganés last summer, Yan Diomandé has quickly established himself as a key player in Leipzig’s frontline. Quick, skillful and a sharp finisher, the winger has already registered his first Bundesliga hat-trick and boasts an impressive return of six goals and three assists this season.

Michael Olise, FC Bayern

Bayern’s elegant wide man has picked up seamlessly where he left off last season. With eight assists – more than any other player in the league – and seven goals to his name, Olise has contributed directly to 15 goals in the Bundesliga, a tally bettered only by Harry Kane.

Luis Diaz, FC Bayern

Díaz has been an instant success at the Allianz Arena following his move from Liverpool. With eight goals and six assists in just 14 Bundesliga appearances, the Colombian has averaged a goal involvement per game, bringing dynamism, intensity and even more goal threat to Bayern’s attack.

Strikers

Harry Kane, FC Bayern

A self-explanatory inclusion, Harry Kane has registered 19 goals and three assists in just 15 Bundesliga appearances. While remaining Bayern’s primary reference point in the box, the Englishman has also dropped deeper more frequently this season, assuming a greater creative and link-up role in possession.
