Marc-André ter Stegen will likely leave FC Barcelona in January with a buyer for the German goalkeeper becoming more clear.

The Catalan newspaper Sport reports that fellow La Liga outfit Girona FC is the frontrunner to sign the former Gladbach player.

Despite currently languishing in 18th-place, Girona has received millions from the City Football Group, so an agreement is quite likely.

Meanwhile, Germany's national team coach Julian Nagelsmann made his demand clear – Ter Stegen must gain regular match practice.

Doing so with Girona would offer the 33-year-old a realistic chance of securing a starting position at the 2026 World Cup this summer.

Ter Stegen doesn't actually want to leave the reigning Spanish champions, but he doesn't have a choice if he wants to join to the Germany setup.
