Dortmund confirm Sahin as new head coach: "A great honor for me."

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the appointment of Nuri Sahin as Edin Terzic's successor.

Borussia Dortmund have been quick to confirm their long-time professional and assistant coach for the last six months as Edin Terzic's successor. Terzic's departure via mutual consent was confirmed yesterday. Rumors concerning Sahin's appointment immediately began to surface thereafter. The 35-year-old signed a contract valid through the end of the 2026/27 campaign on Friday evening.

Sahin played for Dortmund for a cumulative total of 14-and-a-half seasons between 2001 and 2018. He helped lead BVB to the title in 2011 and won the 2017 DFB Pokal under Thomas Tuchel's coaching regime. He donned the black-and-yellow tricot a total of 223 times in the league. Sahin has been serving under Terzic since December.

"It is a great honor for me to be the coach of Borussia Dortmund," Sahin noted in a club statement, "I would like to thank everyone at the club for the trust they have placed in me. From day one, we will do everything we can with a lot of energy and great passion to attain the maximum possible success."

"He has worked hard over the past few years to prepare himself for a coaching career," new BVB boss Lars Ricken added, "He will take on his new role with great dedication and will continue to develop our team. As former teammates, we will work together in a spirit of trust and ambition."
