After their 0-1 DFB-Pokal defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways with a 2-0 Bundesliga victory over Hoffenheim on Sunday.
Speaking after the game, Julian Brandt expressed his satisfaction with the result but offered a critical assessment of Dortmund’s approach.
“Considering the victory, the result, the league situation and the entire matchday, it’s a Sunday that gives you the feeling that it was a successful day,” Brandt said in a post-match interview.
“To be honest, it’s not my way of playing football if you look at the full 90 minutes. But sometimes I just have to accept it,” added Brandt, who would prefer to play “with more possession and more control, maybe fewer long balls.”
From a defensive standpoint, there was little to criticise, he admitted.
“Overall, we defend well this season; it’s not easy for a team to score against us here.
“We’re happy with the win; I don’t want to dwell on it any further.”
