Frimpong to stay at Leverkusen after all?

Bild reports that Jeremie Frimpong's release clause will expire in the week after the Euro finals. If no club signs him before then, it's more likely that he'll stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

Jeremie Frimpong put himself in the spotlight last season with consistently strong performances for Bayer Leverkusen.

Several clubs are believed to be interested in the Dutchman, including Hansi Flick's FC Barcelona, and it seems they will have to hurry if they want to sign him before his release clause expires.

At least according to Bild, Frimpong's release clause - set at €40-45 million - expires the week after the Euro 2024 final.

That means Leverkusen will be free to negotiate a fee after that point, which would likely make him much more expensive.

When asked in May whether he would continue to play for Leverkusen next season, Frimpong was coy.

"I'm so happy here. I'm concentrating on the here and now. I don't know what will happen in the future," he said.

Frimpong scored nine goals and provided nine assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances for Die Werkself last season. His contract runs until 2028.
