Germany name replacement for Pavlovic as Bayern youngster is ruled out of Euro 2024

Aleksandar Pavlovic will miss Euro 2024 for Germany. Emre Can has been called up as his replacement.

Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic has been forced to pull out of Germany's squad for the European Championship.

As confirmed by the German Football Association, the youngster will miss the tournament due to an infection caused by tonsillitis.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has called up Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can to replace Pavlovic in his 26-man squad.

“We wanted another defensive midfielder in our squad and have therefore decided to call up Emre Can. He made it clear that he was excited and ready to join the squad right away. We wanted another player in the squad with experience and one that knows how to deal with pressure. He fits that profile nicely," said Nagelsmann.

Pavlović was first called up to the German national team in March, but missed the friendlies against France and the Netherlands. Back then, he was also forced to withdraw due to tonsillitis.

He recently said that he is considering having his tonsils removed during his summer vacation to avoid similar problems going forward.

“I will probably have to sacrifice my vacation to get it done,” Pavlovic told German media in Germany's training camp.

“This is more important now. I don't want to get sick again and be out for 2-3 weeks."
