Lainer extends expiring contract with Gladbach

Stefan Lainer has signed a new contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Borussia Mönchengladbach has extended the contract of Stefan Lainer.

The 26-year-old defender's contract, which was due to expire this summer, now runs until 2026.

“Stevie has been with us for five years and has always been a model professional with his hard work and mentality,” said Gladbach managing director for sport Roland Virkus.

"We’re very pleased that he’s here to stay as one of the experienced players in the squad."

Lainer, who made a remarkable return to professional football last season after successfully battling cancer, said he “loves” playing for Borussia Mönchengladbah.

"Last season wasn’t easy, for me personally and for the club. I’m now really looking forward to repaying the trust they’ve put in me and giving everything so that we can improve from last season."
