Piero Hincapie has come a long way since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Argentinian side CA Talleres in 2021 for a reported fee of €6.35 million.

Back in December, Leverkusen tied the Ecuadorian centre-back to the club until 2029.

Whether Hincapie will actually stay that long is doubtful, with a number of top European clubs reportedly keeping tabs on him.

But by extending his deal, Leverkusen have put themselves in a strong negotiating position should the defender decide to take the next step at some point in the future.

And according to Sport Bild, Leverkusen have high hopes for the fee he can generate, with the report claiming that Die Werkself are hoping to receive around €70 million to sell him to a top club abroad.

For now, Hincapie is concentrating on the tasks at hand with Bayer Leverkusen, for whom he has made 27 appearances this season.
