FC Bayern boss Hasan Salihamidzic bemoaned his side's 'collective failure' after last night's heavy loss to Gladbach.

Bayern München fell to their heaviest every DFB-Pokal defeat as they were thumped 5-0 by Borussia Mönchengladbach at Borussia-Park on Wednesday evening.

Speaking after the game, Bayern board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic described the Bavarians' performance as a 'collective failure'.

"We were just not in it, not in any 50/50. In the first half, we didn't win any 50/50s, we didn't go up a gear and we let the game slip away. It was a collective failure," said Salihamidzic.

"It is inexplicable. We know how difficult it is playing at Gladbach. Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. Gladbach played well, they took on every challenge from the first minute and really got stuck into the game."

Assistant coach Dino Toppmöller, who was in charge of the team, with head coach Julian Nagelsmann in self-isolation due to COVID-19, said:

"We had a major mind-blank, we were a yard too slow every time. It's hard to accept. It was a well-deserved win for Gladbach. We planned to do a lot of things, but then we couldn't put them into practice.

"To be 3-0 down after 20 minutes here is a disaster, of course. It was a totally wasted day and we're sorry that we disappointed our fans so much. We have to dust ourselves down now and show a reaction on Saturday."
