Kahn: Germany lack promising young goalkeepers

Ex-Germany international Oliver Kahn is not convinced by the young and upcoming German goalkeepers.
Germany lack exceptional young talent when it comes to the goalkeeper position, the former Bayern München keeper Oliver Kahn says.

With Manuel Neuer, 32, and Marc-André ter Stegen, 26, 'Die Mannschaft' look well-prepared for the coming years, but looking at the younger options, Kahn isn't impressed.

"Behind Neuer and ter Stegen, I don't see any exceptional talented young goalkeeper who already plays at a high level. We don't have anyone like the 19-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma in Italy," the former German international told Kicker and continued:

"In the Bundesliga, twelve German goalkeepers have the status of being number one at their respective clubs. Nine of them are over the age of 28. The most promising young German keeper, Julian Pollersbeck, plays for HSV in the 2. Bundesliga."

Apart from Pollersbeck, Mainz 05's Florian Müller, 20, the German under-21 keeper Alexander Nübel from Schalke 04, 22, and the German under-19 keeper Christian Früchtl, 18, from Bayern München are seen as some of the biggest young German goalkeeping talents.
