According to Kicker, there is reason to assume that efforts are underway to extend Nelson's loan deal. Hoffenheim don't have any purchase option, and Arsenal are not willing to let the 18-year-old leave permanently.
However, it's likely that Arsenal will wait to see how Nelson performs in the coming months before discussing a possible extension of his current loan deal.
If Nelson exceeds the expectations, he will probably return to London in the summer, but it's not out of the question that he could stay for another season to continue his development in Germany if he isn't deemed ready for the Premier League yet.
At some point, Nelson would definitely like to play for Arsenal, he has told Kicker.
"It's my home club. I will hopefully go back there," the 18-year-old said.
The youngster also talked about his current success in Germany:
"It's not as easy as it looks, but I'm having a great run. The most important thing is the environment. The coach, the manager and the colleagues all help me and drive me on," he said.
Before joining Hoffenheim on loan, Nelson put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Arsenal.
