Bayern want Gladbach clash postponed, confirms Eberl

Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has revealed that Bayern München would like to postpone Friday's Bundesliga game at Allianz Arena.
Bayern München have been hit by a COVID-19 outbreak ahead of their first game of 2022 against Gladbach this Friday, with eight of their players currently sidelined after returning positive tests.

This has led to speculation over whether the game will take place as planned, and Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl has now confirmed that Bayern want to postpone the match.

"Bayern are keen to postpone the game. Ultimately, it's the DFL's decision, though. We're not concerning ourselves with the situation. We're preparing intensively and our full focus is on the match," said Eberl at a press conference today.

Gladbach coach Adi Hütter also commented on the situation, telling reporters:

"The DFL ultimately decides if the game in Munich goes ahead or not. We're preparing ourselves as normal. Nevertheless, both Bayern and ourselves have a number of players missing."

Unless Bayern have at least 15 eligible players, including nine outfield players from the first team and one goalkeeper, the game could be delayed to a later date by the German Football League (DFL).

The Bavarians only had 10 outfield players in training today. In addition to the eight players in quarantine, Bouna Sarr and Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting will miss the game as they have been called up to play at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Josip Stanisic will miss out due to an injury while Bayern are sweating over the fitness of Niklas Süle and Leon Goretzka.

Nevertheless, Bayern currently assume the game will take place as planned on Friday, according to Bild.
