RP Report: Virkus officially blocks Sommer's transfer to Bayern
In what the newspaper calls an "exclusive", North-Rhine Westphalia's "Rheinische Post" newspaper claims that Borussia Mönchengladbach have definitely ruled out allowing keeper Yann Sommer to transfer to FC Bayern München.
An article appearing Saturday evening on the newspaper's website quotes Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus as having informed Bayern that a deal will not happen.
If Düsseldorf's "Rheinische Post" is to be believed, Yann Sommer's transfer to FC Bayern München has been decidedly blocked. The Westphalian newspaper, based not far from Mönchengladbach, assertively states that Bayern have already been informed that Sommer is not available.

An article appearing on the Post's website Saturday evening claims that the paper's editorial staff learned that Gladbach never really had any intention of allowing the keeper to leave. BMG sporting director Roland Virkus reached for comment is quoted in the article as unequivocally stating that "Yann Sommer will not be given up."
The article goes on to state that Virkus and the administrative team did actually consider allowing Sommer to be sold six months ahead of the expiration of his contract, but ultimately decided that the potential alternatives to the Swiss international in goal were not financially feasible. Virkus had apparently reconsidered after ruling out selling Sommer in December.
It certainly might prove the case that Bayern will continue their pursuit of the 34-year-old veteran, possibly throwing Gladbach an oversized offer. Options for the league-leaders remain thin after Alexander Nübel expressed skepticism about a loan recall and other keepers may prove exorbitantly expensive.
