Having missed out on names such as Patrick Drewes and Alexander Meyer, the search for a goalkeeping upgrade continues in the capital of Baden-Württemberg. Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid and Sky's Germany outfit now bring two more names into the mix. VfB Stuttgart may be willing to aim a little higher in their quest to fill the position Fabian Bredlow and Florian Müller both struggled in last season.

The tabloid notes that Yann Sommer may be persuaded to re-join his old goalkeeping coach from Borussia Mönchengladbach, Steffen Krebs, in Swabia. The FC Bayern München keeper will almost certainly be on the move this offseason having already completed his task of keeping Manuel Neuer's slot warm for the second half of the season. It nevertheless remains true that much larger clubs are interested in Sommer's services.

Another Bayern keeper unlikely to displace Neuer in the #1 spot could be on Stuttgart's list as well. Alexander Nübel - headed back to Bavaria after an extended loan-stint at AS Monaco - will be searching for a club at which he can continue to earn playing time. Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that Nübel, like Sommer, has many other potential suitors and would prefer a move to the Premiership.

Stuttgart can nevertheless guarantee Nübel playing time front-and-center in the German domestic league. The 26-year-old - once considered Neuer's natural successor for both club and country - could thus audition himself for the German national team again and potentially earn a roster spot for Bundestrainer Hansi Flick's Nationalelf ahead of next summer's Euros.
