On Monday, Borussia Dortmund revealed that Nico Schlotterbeck will miss the rest of the season due to a meniscus tear in his left knee.

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has now provided more clarity on how long the centre-back is expected to be out for.

"Everything happened very quickly. Nico had an operation on Monday evening and will be out for several months – around six months, that's the current prognosis," Kehl told reporters ahead of Borussia Dortmund's trip to Barcelona on Tuesday.

"It really has been a shock for us. The loss weighs heavily," Kehl added.

Schlotterbeck's absence will only add to Borussia Dortmund's motivation to get a result in the first leg of their quarter-final tie against FC Barcelona on Wednesday.

"We will do everything we can to make him happy in front of the TV," said Kehl.
