Gladbach updates: Virkus wants to extend with Elvedi and Neuhaus, Itakura and Plea to stay

A Sport Bild report gives an update on Nico Elvedi, Florian Neuhaus, Ko Itakura and Alassane Plea, who have all been linked with a move away from Gladbach.
Having already lost Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini, Lars Stindl and Jonas Hofmann this summer, Gladbach are fighting to avoid losing any more first-team regulars.

In an interview with Sport Bild, sporting director Roland Virkus emphasizes that he is trying to extend the deals of Nico Elvedi and Florian Neuhaus, who are both out of contract next summer.

However, he also stresses that Gladbach will not risk losing either of them on a free transfer in 2024.

"As things stand at the moment, we don't want to lose either of them this summer. But it's also the case that we don't want to let valuable players leave on a free transfer in the future, and we've also made that clear to the players. We have already had initial discussions with both of them about extending their contracts and we want to convince them that we are on the right track," Virkus said.

"It is clearly communicated to them that they cannot come to us on August 29 and say: We are not going to go along with this. We need planning certainty," he added.

Ko Itakura and Alassane Plea have also been linked with summer moves, but according to Sport Bild, none of them are interested in leaving.

Manu Koné, on the other hand, could be sold, but Gladbach have yet to receive any offers for the midfielder, who is valued at around €40 million.
