Injuries to Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt forced Bayern Munich to field an unorthodox center-back pairing of Noussair Mazraoui and Leon Goretzka in last night's 4-0 DFB-Pokal win over Preussen Münster.

After the match, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel gave an update on his injured centre-backs and assessed their chances of being fit for Saturday's Bundesliga clash with RB Leipzig.

On Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano, he said:

"We're trying to get them fit, but we can't guarantee it."

Tuchel added that it will be a "tight race" to get them fit for Saturday's game.

"But it's realistic and double."

De Ligt will need more time to recover and will be back "for Copenhagen at the earliest, probably more likely Freiburg," Tuchel said.

Should Upamecano and Kim miss out against Leipzig, Goretzka and Mazraoui could continue in central defense.

"The two have shown that it can work," Tuchel stressed.
