Germany's preparations for next year's European Championship on home soil suffered a setback on Saturday with a disappointing 2-3 home defeat to Turkey.

But despite the loss, German Football Association (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf has high hopes for the team and new coach Julian Nagelsmann.

"We are playing a tournament in our own country," Neundorf told Bild on Sunday, adding that reaching the final must therefore be "the goal".

Neundorf stressed that he has great faith in Nagelsmann and warned against questioning the new coach and being too pessimistic after the defeat.

"We mustn't fall into the trap of saying that everything went wrong," Neuendorf stressed.

"We have to build on our strengths. We often fall into the trap of getting into a toxic situation and talking everything down. Questioning everything now makes it difficult."
