Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has revealed why he turned down the chance to join Bayern Munich, despite starting his football journey there as a child.

Karim Adeyemi, born in Munich, has had the opportunity to become a Bayern Munich player - but he ultimately turned it down in favour of Bayern's biggest rival, Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking in an interview with “WAZ”, the 23-year-old recalled his early days in Munich and his admiration for Bayern legend Arjen Robben.

“I don't need to lie, I played for FC Bayern and was a huge Arjen Robben fan when I was a little boy!" - Adeyemi was in Bayern's youth academy between 2010 and 2011.

“But the older I got, the more I liked that Dortmund was the club in Germany that fought for titles with fewer resources, had very good players, and the best fans in Germany.”

After continuing his development and career at Unterhaching (near Munich), RB Salzburg and FC Liefering, Adeyemi joined Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for €30 million - Bayern Munich were also interested in him during that time.

“I enjoy every moment when I'm at home in Signal Iduna Park. That's why I chose Borussia Dortmund.”

After some ups and downs in his Dortmund career so far, Adeyemi is now considered to be one of BVB's most important forwards and also played a crucial role under headcoach Niko Kovač.
