Watford loanee Lukebakio unlikely to stay at Düsseldorf amid BVB and Gladbach interest

Fortuna Düsseldorf coach Friedhelm Funkel doesn't think the club will be able to keep Watford loanee Dodi Lukebakio who has reportedly drawn interest from Dortmund and Gladbach.
Dodi Lukebakio has been a revelation since joining Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan from Watford before this season.

Fortuna sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel has said the club hope to keep Lukebakio, who has scored 11 goals this season, but the club's head coach, Friedhelm Funkel, admits the 21-year-old is unlikely to stay.

"You can't hold on to him. In this regard, I'm a brutal realist. It would be a dream if he stayed. But I can't imagine that he will," Funkel told Sport Bild.

According to Sport bild, it's also unlikely that the winger will play for Watford next season. Apparently, Hoffenheim, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach have all targeted the 21-year-old who has expressed a huge desire to play in the Champions League.

Watford want at least €20 million for Lukebakio, Sport Bild understands. That means that he'll probably be too expensive for Hoffenheim, but it's a fee that Dortmund would definitely be able to pay. The same goes for Gladbach, provided 'Die Fohlen' manage to qualify for the Champions League.

Lukebakio has made 22 appearances for Fortuna Düsseldorf this season with 11 goals and three assists to his name. His contract with Watford runs until 2022.
