Watzke urges DFB to extend Nagelsmann's contract
Hans-Joachim Watzke believes the German Football Association would be wise to extend Julian Nagelsmann's contract.
Borussia Dortmund CEO and German Football Association President Hans-Joachim Watzke would like to see Julian Nagelsmann's contract as Germany coach extended beyond the summer.
"The DFB should now try to extend Julian's contract. If the DFB manages to sign him for longer, it would be good for German football," Watzke told the 'Spielmacher' podcast.
According to Watzke, the 36-year-old has a clear idea of "how football should be played."
"He is very conceptual, he has the right mix. He was at Hoffenheim, he was at Leipzig, he was at Bayern - Julian has been successful everywhere he has been. If you're successful at three different clubs, that's a good business card," Watzke said.
The DFB could face competition from Bayern Munich, who are reportedly considering bringing Nagelsmann back to replace Thomas Tuchel.
Given his involvement with Borussia Dortmund, Watzke says he's trying not to get too involved in negotiations with the 36-year-old.
"I'm staying out of it a bit, so that no one says I had any influence," he emphasized.
