Xabi Alonso's decision to reject interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool to stay at Bayer Leverkusen beyond the end of the summer is a huge boost for the Werkself.

But for Josip Stanisic, who is currently on loan at Leverkusen from Bayern, the Spaniard's decision is "a bit of a shame".

"I'm glad he's happy here. But of course it's a bit of a shame for me. I was hoping for a different outcome," Stanisic told Sport1, hinting that he would have liked to see Xabi Alonso join him at Bayern this summer.

Whether Stanisic himself will be a Bayern player next season is not 100% certain.

"You never know what will happen in the summer. So I'm not ruling anything out," he said.
