Rangnick: 'Tedesco is an outstanding coach'
RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick has backed the under-fire Schalke 04 coach Domenico Tedesco.
Schalke 04 coach Domenico Tedesco has been backed by RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick before the Bundesliga meeting between the two clubs on Saturday.
Tedesco, who guided Schalke to a second-place finish last season, is under heavy pressure after a string of disappointing results. Most recently, 'The Royal Blues' were dumped out of the Champions League by losing 0-7 to Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.
But no matter if Tedesco ends up getting sacked this season, the former Erzgebirge Aue coach deserves respect, argues Rangnick.
"I think Domenico Tedesco is an outstanding young coach who has proved himself last year at Schalke and in Aue before that. No matter how the decision goes, I hope that the guy gets the treatment that he deserves," Rangnick said at a press conference today and added:
"It's clear that everyone expects a response after the 0-7 defeat to Manchester City. We expect much more opposition and a stronger performance from Schalke."
The two clubs meet at Veltins-Arena on Saturday at 15.30 CET.
