In the winter, Olivier Giroud nearly joined Borussia Dortmund who were very interested in bringing the forward from Arsenal to Germany.

However, the French international now tells Sky that Dortmund only wanted to loan him, and that was why he decided to join Chelsea instead.

"Dortmund wanted to loan me for six months, but I didn't want that. My contract with Arsenal only ran until the summer, so I would just have delayed the decision on my future," Giroud told Sky and added:

"Then Chelsea came and offered me a contract until the summer of 2019. That was just more appealing to me and my family so we could stay in London. But Dortmund is an interesting team and the Bundesliga is also interesting. Why not in the future?"

Instead, Dortmund loaned Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea for the rest of the 2017/18 season. Batshuayi has revealed that 'Die Schwarzgelben' have contacted Chelsea concerning a permanent deal for the striker, but so far no agreement has been made on his future.
