The former German international feels the Real Madrid loanee shouldn't be satisfied with his playing time at Bayern.
"James has to go. If he looks reasonably at his personal situation at Bayern, he must realize that it would be right for him to leave the club. He has to play and have fun playing. He will be lost if he's only allowed to play seven, 10, 12 or 15 minutes," Effenberg wrote in a column for t-online.de and added:
"He has only played three full matches in the Bundesliga this season. That's not what he's aiming for. Therefore, he can't stay at Bayern. Maybe he has to find something completely new. It will certainly also be difficult to get to play regularly at Real Madrid."
Bayern have the option to turn Rodriguez's loan deal into a permanent move for €42 million.
The Colombian international has appeared 28 times for the Bavarians this season with seven goals and six assists to his name.
