Thomas Delaney: 'It's not the end of the world'

Thomas Delaney claims he's not worried about his lack of first-team action at Borussia Dortmund this season so far.

After starting most games for Borussia Dortmund Dortmund last season, Thomas Delaney had to watch his club's first four games of the season from the bench, with Julian Weigl starting in central midfield alongside Axel Witsel in BVB coach Lucien Favre's 4-2-3-1 system.

Delaney was then given the chance in the line-up against Union Berlin last week, replacing the injured Axel Witsel, but the Dane was forced off at the break due to a head injury.

But despite playing just 45 minutes this season, Delaney insists he isn't worried at all.

"It's early in the season. Nothing has happened that I haven't tried before in my career. I'm not worried. I have to work on the same things as before. I have only been on the bench for three or four games. It's not the end of the world," Delaney told Danish media outlet Sportfyn and added:

"The explanation is that the coach feels that the two other guys are currently better than me. I have to improve on the same things as in last season; getting more involved offensively and keep doing the things I'm good at.

"Nothing groundbreaking has happened, and the tactics haven't changed, so I'm not suddenly surplus to requirements. It's a simple choice, and it's a bit frustrating, of course, because I want to play football and not just be in Dortmund because of the amazing fans," Delaney said.

Delaney is set to face Gibraltar and Georgia with the Danish national team this week.
