Jonjoe Kenny has explained why he wanted to join Schalke 04 on loan from Everton during the summer.

"The Bundesliga is a good place to be. Young players get a lot of playing time here and can show themselves on the big stage," the 22-year-old told Bild.

Kenny insists he wasn't scared off by Schalke's poor 2018/19 campaign that saw the club finish 14th.

"Despite everything, Schalke is a huge club. The club has played regularly in Europe and has a large fan base. When the possibility arose, I couldn't say no," he said.

Kenny has played from the start in all of Schalke's game this season and scored his first Bundesliga in last week's 3-0 win over Hertha BSC.
