Former Swiss international Stephane Chapuisat is pleased to see his compatriot Denis Zakaria develop at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

"He has huge potential," Chapuisat told Sport Bild and continued:

"He can always break through, relying on his speed. Above all, Denis is a very good guy with a super mentality and attitude. He wants to learn and progress every day and never rests on his laurels."

Zakaria has recently been linked with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern München and Manchester United, and Chapuisat is confident that the central midfielder is capable of taking the leap to join one of Europe's biggest clubs.

"That's the only way you can become a really big player today. And that's why I'm particularly happy for Denis that he's really getting started," Chapuisat said.

The 22-year-old has made 10 appearances for Gladbach this season, scoring once.
