Valentino Lazaro: 'I could already have returned to the Bundesliga in the winter'

Gladbach newcomer Valentino Lazaro claims he could have returned to the Bundesliga in January, but he ultimately opted for a move to Newcastle at the time.
Last month, former Hertha BSC star Valentino Lazaro completed a move to Borussia Mönchengladbach, joining 'Die Fohlen' from Inter on loan with an option to buy.

Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild, the 24-year-old reveals he already had the chance to come back to Germany in January, but he opted to join Newcastle United on loan instead. This time, however, he didn't think twice when Gladbach came knocking for him.

"[Gladbach sporting director] Max Eberl always kept tabs on me in the past, and we were in contact for a while. I could already have returned to the Bundesliga in the winter. It's no secret that there was contact with several teams, some of them from the Bundesliga. But at the time, I decided to move to Newcastle instead. Gladbach were the right step at this point. I'm really looking forward to playing for this awesome club," said Lazaro.

Lazaro recently returned to individual training after suffering a muscle injury in pre-season.
