In an interview with the BVB member magazine Borussia, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says the club have been lacking players 'with courage':
"Players who are not afraid. Players who dare to make courageous decisions and turn things around in difficult situations - just when things get tough, when you have to fight back," Watzke says.
The Dortmund boss says that ex-Dortmund player Sven 'Manni' Bender, who now plays for Leverkusen, is the type of player he describes.
"For Jürgen Klopp, Manni was always a very special player," Watzke told Borussia.
Bender was among Jürgen Klopp's favourites, but he was sold to Leverkusen after playing just six Bundesliga games in the 2016/17 season with Thomas Tuchel at the helm at the Westfalenstadion.
Over the summer, Borussia Dortmund have announced the signings of Thomas Delaney and Axel Witsel who both appear to have the mentality that Watzke describes.
