Report: Bayern set to part company with Portuguese youth prospect
Germany's "Sport1" reports that record champions Bayern München have opted not to exercise the €7.5 million purchase option on Portuguese prospect Tiago Dantas.
Both German broadcaster "Sport1" and Bavarian newspaper "Münchener Abendzeitung" claim that Dantas was a prospect Flick himself requested the club bring in. His deadline day signing precluded him from being eligible for the first-team until January. Flick's recent nomination suggested that he had planned to begin integrating the central midfielder into the squad.
Both sources indicate that Salihamidzic plans a midfield overhaul for FC Bayern II during the January transfer window. The reserve team, which last year won the third division under current Hoffenheim trainer Sebastian Hoeneß, currently sits in the relegation zone of Bundesliga Three. Over the weekend, the reserves dropped a crucial match against city rivals 1860 München.
FCB II midfielder Angelo Stiller is already understood to be headed for a reunion with former coach Hoeneß in Sinsheim before the month is out. There should be plenty of more ins-and-outs on the Bayern campus as Salihamidzic rebuilds the team.
Dantas remains on loan through the end of the season, but an early cancellation could be in the cards.
