Bayer Leverkusen sporting managing director Rudi Völler has warned there will be consequences if the club miss out on a Champions League place.

'Die Werkself' have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions and dropped to sixth in the Bundesliga after Sunday's disappointing 1-2 defeat at home to relegation candidates Arminia Bielefeld.

"Missing out on a Champions League place would have noticeable consequences. In order to be financially sensible, we would have to get rid of one or two players."

Despite Leverkusen's poor results in 2021, Völler backs Peter Bosz to stay on as a coach.

"All the more, of course, he knows that we have to show a different face next Sunday against Hertha BSC and in the coming weeks that he will also be in charge," said the former German international.
